Tennessee Getaways

'NEW SIGHTS'
Nothing is more pleasing to my husband and myself, than experiencing the excitement of exploring! Traveling to some new destination, discovering new sights, and making new memories, is a sweet pastime!
The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.

Tennessee Mountain Cabin
This is 'Bear Trap', one of the fine Tennessee mountain cabins offered by Tennessee Getaways, owned and operated by John and Julie Barton. My husband and I have spent a memorable Christmas in the 'Bear Trap', and the remembrance of our stay is one of sweet contentment.

Living Room, Kitchen, and Deck Hot-Tub, Bear Trap

Located near Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, 'Bear Trap' is one of the cabins that sit perched on a mountain bluff, with a beautiful view of the mist-shrouded Smokies. So, needless to say, the view, and the surrounding area, leave nothing to desire. But, it was the rental cabin itself, that most impressed me.

'Bear Trap' is not only a well-maintained, modern cabin, boasting absolutely everything you need for your stay, excepting groceries, it is carefully, and lovingly decorated. No ordinary rental cabin experience, this! 'Bear Trap' is warm, and cozy, with lovely silk plants and flowers arranged in baskets, throughout the cabin. Country charm is every place your eye strays. Whimsical black bear figurines adorn the mantle of the rock fireplace, which also boasts framed photographs of some of the area's scenic pleasures. More of the bear figurines throughout the cabin, with country wreaths, plaques, small, yet wonderful 'homey' touches, all little extras you just don't find very often, in rental units. We were delighted with the 'Bear Trap', and all it's amenities. At night, soaking in the fine hot-tub, on the back deck, after a day of hiking in the park, with a blanket of stars overhead, and then, curling up before the fireplace, and a roaring fire...well, it was just perfect! And I'd like to thank the Barton's, whose efforts at making their guests comfortable, go well above, and beyond the ordinary!
'JEKYLL ISLAND'

Jekyll Island Club Hotel

Imagine an unspoiled paradise, where palms and live oaks dripping Spanish moss, vie with the beauty of shoreline dunes, for your attention! Consider the excitement generated by reading signs stating, 'Please, don't feed the Alligators', and cautioning you to take care, as you walk, or ride your bike, along the twenty miles of the island's paved trails!

About seven and half miles long, and one and a half miles wide, Jekyll Island is a nature lover's Paradise. Only thirty-five per cent of the land on Jekyll is developed, and under law, no further development will take place. It has been owned by the state of Georgia since 1947, and is a designated nature preserve. There are approximately six hundred homes on the island, and ten inns, eight of these are oceanside. The atmosphere is definitely casual, relaxed, and laid back. Nature is the star attraction on Jekyll. Over ten miles of beach are open to the public year round. These are some of the widest beaches, at low tide, that you'll find anywhere in the world! You'll find sea turtles, bottlenose dolphins, armadillos, and yes, 'gators. With ocean, shoreline, forest, and salt water marshes, as habitat, you can imagine the wildlife to be found on Jekyll!

Miles of beach.

We'll be visiting Jekyll often.
And no matter the length of our visit,
it will always seem too short a stay.

Florida's Sun-Coast
A little R&R...that's how my husband, Steve, and I think of a visit to Florida's Sun-Coast. This is the area encompassing Tampa Bay, St. Pete Beach, and Clearwater. Tampa Bay is a fine city, and Clearwater, a marvelous vacation destination. But, for me, it's St. Pete's Beach and vicinity, that beckons. So laid back, so 'come as you are', so relaxing. Gorgeous white sand beaches, exquisite sunsets, clean and bright, and so inviting...that's St. Pete's Beach, Treasure Island, and Madeira Beach, Florida.

'Cruising the Caribbean'
What an enjoyable experience! We booked our Eastern Caribbean cruise through the Carnival Cruise line, and visited San Juan, Puerto Rico, and St. Maarten, and St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. We have nothing but praise for the line. Our cabin was clean, comfortable, and we enjoyed the added luxury of a balcony. Dinners in the Main dining rooms were better than expected, and the service, in all areas, was exemplary. You had the choice of either relaxing to your heart's content, or filling your days, and nights, with activities, and entertainment. You're offered a selection of land Tours, or Excursions you are able to book aboard ship, for each port of call, or, you may disembark, and go it alone. We saw San Juan on our own, and also, Philipsburg, St. Maarten. Before arriving at St. Thomas, we booked the Magen's Bay excursion, for that island, and had a wonderful time.

We were transported to this tranquil, beautiful bay, where we enjoyed swimming and sunning. Later, we were driven up, and up, to Paradise Point, the highest point on the island.

While sipping a cold drink, we were afforded a marvelous view of Charlotte Amalie, below.

Amicalola Falls State Park-Northern Georgia
L ocated in the North Georgia mouintains, these falls are the highest in the southeastern U.S., tumbling dramatically down from a height of 729 feet. There are a number of hiking trails leading to the base of the falls, as well as to their summit. There are also a series of 600 total steps, leading to the top of the falls. We viewed the falls from both vantage points, and it is definitely at the base, where one may experience the full beauty and majesty of the falls.

My thanks to John and Julie Barton for permission to use the photograph of 'Bear Trap'.
